The lee part of leeward comes from the Old English “hleo”, which means “shelter, defense, or protection.”  I’ve spent years fishing on the windward side of the island (east facing shores) and let me tell you there is no reprieve from the rough seas.  Our typical wind blows out of the Northeast and can make seas hard to handle for people not accustomed to it.  Leaving from Port Allen gives us an advantage to fish waters in the lee of the wind line.  Wave heights and waves reflecting off the shore are cut to a minimal of this side.  You will definitely feel the difference!

Port Allen also has it’s advantages when it come to the large tuna runs during spring and summer months. Schools of 100-200 lb tuna migrate out of the northwest into Kauai waters every year.  Our harbor entrance is right in their path!  Every year the run out of Port Allen for this fish of a lifetime is unbeatable.  Competition for fish is also set to a minimum from this local harbor. Only several boats operate from this location, leaving unspoiled grounds for us to pursue our catch!

Working in the Hawaii fishing industry for the last 15 years, we’ve seen many different styles of companies. This is a statewide policy, and every charter business operates under the same structure. Our main goal each and every trip is to provide our clients with a great meal or two of fresh-caught fish while they visit the island. Large fish caught in the industry are sold directly to local restaurants and markets immediately. These fish are very delicate and have a short shelf life. Freezing is not an option. This policy keeps Hawaii fish in Hawaii’s economy and maintains jobs for the local population here on our little island. The amount of fish cut is always relative to the amount caught. That being said, our clients always come first, and we try to accommodate you any way possible within reason. We are one of the most generous companies when it comes to sharing our catch and look forward to tight lines! It is a good idea to have a small cooler to transport your catch to your accommodation.
