It’s been an early spring here on the leeward side of Kauai. Fishing in Kauai has been great and plenty of bait is already showing up. I have seen huge piles of Malolo (flying fish) and large bird piles already moving into our deep coastal waters. I also have been noticing big school of skipjack tuna starting to pop up all around our general structures we tend to fish. Makes for exciting fishing.
Generally the larger fish show up with warmer water currents coming out of the north. That being said these are generalizations and mother nature rules the day fishing offshore in the tropics. This time of year we cover as much ground as possible dragging artificial lures looking for that good strike. We fish FAD’s whenever the opportunity arrises and it seems to be somewhat steady so far this season. As spring gets warmer and water temps increase we usually go through the entire school of pelagic species. First the mahi mahi, then ono, then ahi is a typical season. That being said we have burst of tuna year round and it seems like action is starting early for us here on the Kauai fishing rounds. We boated a 142lb ahi today and couldn’t be more excited for the coming days of fun filled fishing ahead.
You’ll never get them if you don’t put lines in the water!
Tight Lines and Bloody decks, hope to see you on the water here with Hunt Fish Kauai.
